On November 11, 2024, the Sugar Energy technology of the 10,000-ton 5-hydroxymethylfurfural production construction project of Tangneng Technology and the launch ceremony of the main products of the Furan new material chain were held in the Daixi area of Daishan Economic Development Zone. This is the world's first known HMF 10,000-ton production line, which will change the import trade pattern of my country's HMF products, directly accelerate the development of downstream bio-based furan new material products, and provide a novel path for the utilization of surplus biomass resources in agriculture and forestry.
HMF is a bio-based platform chemical derived from the most widely used biomass raw materials such as starch, sucrose, and lignocellulose. It can directly replace fossil-based products such as benzene and formaldehyde. The project plans to build a production line of 100,000 tons/year of polyester (PEF) and supporting monomers (HMF and FDCA). The project's first phase is currently under construction with a total investment of 310 million yuan, covering an area of 70 acres. It mainly constructs an annual production line of 12,000 tons of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA), and 2,000 tons/year polyester (PEF), which will become a new engine for the new biological materials industry.
As an important bio-based platform chemical, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural has a global demand of more than 10 million tons. As a national high-tech enterprise focusing on the design, development, production, and application promotion of bio-based furan new materials, Sugar Energy technology has focused on researching and developing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural for many years. In April this year, the thousand-ton-level "key technology for the full mixed flow continuous production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural" produced by Sugar Energy technology passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal submitted by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. It was awarded the Scientific and Technological Achievement Appraisal Certificate.
